Mrs. Hernández is originally from Chile, the southernmost country in South America. She moved to Utah with her family in December 2021—just in time to experience her very first real white Christmas. It was something she had only imagined before, since Christmas in Chile takes place in the summer!
Her husband is a retired officer from the Chilean Air Force, and together they have shared 20 years of adventure. They are the proud parents of three daughters and two beloved cats.
With over 19 years of experience in education, Mrs. Hernández has worked in a variety of roles, including elementary teaching, special education, university instruction, and leading workshops for teachers and families. For her, teaching has always been much more than a profession—it is a true calling.
Growing up with physically disabled parents shaped her strong sense of initiative, resilience, and service. These values continue to guide how she teaches and connects with her students. She is dedicated to creating a classroom environment where children feel capable, supported, and inspired to learn.
As someone who learned English as a second language, she deeply understands both the challenges and rewards of bilingualism. She believes that speaking two languages is a superpower and feels honored to help her students develop that gift.
Outside of school, Mrs. Hernández enjoys spending time with her husband, daughters, and their two adopted cats. She loves chocolate, walking, swimming, Pilates, biking with her family, singing, and playing the guitar.
She brings joy, warmth, and a wonderful sense of humor to her classroom. After surviving an 8.8 earthquake and tsunami in Chile, she likes to joke that not much scares her anymore! She uses that perspective to build a classroom community where every student feels welcome, valued, and empowered to belong.
