Serena has dedicated her work in education to supporting students in developing strong mathematical understanding. As a math coach, she is passionate about helping others see that math is not just about answers—it’s about thinking, problem-solving, and making sense of the world. She loves working alongside teachers and finds great joy in seeing students build confidence and experience those “aha” moments.
Serena believes that all students can learn and grow in math with the right support and opportunities. She especially enjoys digging into student thinking, supporting meaningful math discussions, and helping classrooms become places where mistakes are valued as part of learning.
Serena and her family spent 13 ½ years living in South America, where she learned to speak Spanish fluently and picked up some Portuguese along the way (though she’ll tell you it’s still a work in progress!). Her time there shaped her love for people, culture, and communication.
Outside of school, Serena's greatest joy is her family. She is a proud mom of four children, ages 28 to 21. She is an animal lover and proudly claims her dog, Sandy, as her favorite creature, a rescue from the beaches of the Dominican Republic. She also enjoys figuring out how things work, whether that means fixing something around the house or taking it apart to better understand it.
Whether she’s working with a small group of students or collaborating with a team of teachers, Serena is dedicated to making math accessible, engaging, and meaningful for everyone.
We appreciate Serena and all her hard work at Sand Springs!
