Hispanic Dancer

Every year, from September 15th to October 15th, people throughout the United States observe Hispanic Heritage Month. This special month honors the history, culture, and contributions of people from Spanish speaking countries. It includes families with roots in Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Spain. The dates were chosen because many Latin American countries celebrate their Independence Days in mid September, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, and Chile. During this month, schools and communities across the country learn about different countries, flags, languages, and cultural traditions.

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Sand Springs Elementary will host a parade on October 23rd during the assembly, with dances on the same day. Nearly 90 students from our community have Hispanic heritage, representing 13 different countries of Hispanic origin.

We are excited to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month! Our very own Mrs. Hernandez, a first grade teacher, has created an amazing News Paper about Hispanic Heritage.
